Companions

Tame or befriend animals. Nothing can hurt your companions, and they show on your map.

Updated 2 min read

A companion is an animal that's yours: a wolf, a cat, a horse, a bunny... Nothing can hurt it. Not swords, arrows, TNT, lava, fire, potions, mobs, falls or the void. Whoever tries is told it can't be hurt.

Getting companions

  • Tame any animal the normal way (wolves, cats, parrots, horses, donkeys, llamas...). It becomes your companion right away.
  • Befriend animals Minecraft can't tame: sneak and feed them their favourite food until they trust you (hearts!). Then they follow you around like a wolf.

Feeding without sneaking still breeds animals as normal. Animals from spawners are too wild to befriend.

Sneak + right click a befriended companion with an empty hand to make it stay or follow.

Only yours

  • Only you can ride your companions, open their chests, put them on a lead, shear or name them.
  • Want a friend to ride your horse? . Take it back with .
  • Nobody can pour lava or start a fire right next to someone else's companion.
